Segmentation Principle

I choose to do my On The Town Activity on Segmentation Principles. I have never realized what this was called but I always knew that I learned better this way. Seeing a whole bunch of words or pictures on a page not in a particular order would confuse me. I would have to stare at the page for a long time to figure out the order. After a while I would get bored and not want to learn. The Segmentation Principle breaks pictures and multimedia down into segments. These segments are put into a specific order that correlates to the learners’ way of organizing information to learn quicker. The use of space is important as well. In segmentation, it is important that the pictures are not too close together or too far apart. This could confuse and deter the learner. Since Segmentation Principle is rooted in Cognitive Theory, it takes continuous words, multimedia or pictures and breaks them down into smaller groups for the brain to dissect. This gives the learner time to digest the information at their own speed.

The picture here is a make-up tutorial. I could of chosen to read a long article about how to put the make-up on, watch a 4-7 minute YouTube video or listen to someone tell me how to do it. Instead I chose to use this picture to teach myself how to apply make-up. This picture is shown in a linear pattern going from left to right. (How we read) It also shows all of the pictures at the same level. (Not distracting) Plus it uses the 5 picture pattern. The number 5 is a popular number group that helps people learn as well. As you can see, there are simple directive text that are aligned with the pictures and the colors are not harsh, which makes it pleasing to the eye. As the segments progress from left to right, the make-up progresses too. This shows the learner how the make-up should look.
